We need your help. Our calls for a fair and timely contract have been ignored
It's been 10 months since we Unionized and we still don't have a contract (for reference — it took Chicago Intelli COFFEEBARS 4 months to reach a contract)
Intelligentsia’s union busting tactic of choice:
DELAY..............DELAY..............DELAY
The use of this delay tactic attempts to make the Union look ineffective and weak.
If we reach the one year anniversary of our Union certification (end of January) without a contract, we could lose our Union protections if Intelli calls for a vote to decertify from our Union.
Intelligentsia has spent a lot of money this year on Union busting legal representation (Ogletree Deakins) when they could have spent it on their employees.
Examples of what Intelligentsia’s lawyer has done to ensure no progress is made in negotiations:
- scheduling less than one meeting a month
- showing up late
- calling for half days
- failure to communicate with Union
- purposeful lack of clarity
- inattention during meetings
- obvious apathy towards us as people
- expression of disinterest in meetings
- ignored our proposals and brought in their own with clauses that were worse than our current situation (in some cases seeking to take away rights given under the Labor Act) in order to derail the meetings from the actual issues at hand.
- Only 1 Intelligentsia cafe manager at the table that can't make decisions for the company. HR and upper management are not present.
